Field Composition Details

Heats

The composition of the 10 heats of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will be determined by blind draw. Greyhounds trained in the same interest will be guarded.

Semi-Finals

Four semi-finals of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will be drawn and they will comprise the 10 heat winners, 10 heat second placegetters, 10 heat third placegetters and the fastest two fourths in the heats. The field composition of the semi-finals will be determined, firstly, by placings in heats and, secondly, times recorded in registering such placings. The formula used fairly seeds greyhounds into the semi-finals based on a combined consideration of the placings and times recorded by all greyhounds in the heats. No guarding for greyhounds trained in the same interest applies in the semi-finals. Semi-final composition is determined solely on the basis of heat performance to a pre-set formula.

Final

The final will comprise the four semi-final winners and the four semi-final second placegetters. The fastest two semi-final third placegetters will be first and second reserves in the final.

Golden Easter Egg Nomination Closing

Nominations for the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will close with GRNSW at 12 Noon on Friday, March 12, 2010.

Greyhounds may be withdrawn without penalty up until 10am on Monday, March 15, 2010.

Company Info

Company History

Macro Meats - Gourmet Game was established in 1987. Our vision: to develop kangaroo meat not only as another meat for human consumption [which was used only for pet food at that time], but to promote kangaroo meat's healthy and 100% natural features.

Company director and founder

Ray Borda, Managing Director Macro Meats For over 20 years, Ray Borda has pioneered the global kangaroo meat industry. Working with governments, developing quality control procedures, supporting chefs and educating consumers, he has elevated kangaroo meat from a pet food into a gourmet product for health conscious consumers - in the process building a business with 260 employees.

Ray's main focus is making Kangaroo meat more readily available to the public by way of distribution into every supermarket in Australia.

Education about kangaroo meat in Australia

Although there was not much nutritional information about kangaroo meat available in 1987, we believed that kangaroo meat may in fact be superior to other domestic meats being consumed. Since then, Government Food Laboratories have tested and documented a complete analysis on kangaroo meat.

Initially there was public resistance towards eating kangaroo meat. We attributed this to the fact that we were developing a product that was possibly never considered as a food for human consumption. At that time the Government had no Regulations developed for the hygienic processing of kangaroo meat in Australia. We continually found ourselves in a position where we had to educate the public about the Kangaroo Management Program ( and how the Government implements it ) and the Regulations ( being developed at that time ) before we could even start to promote kangaroo meat. Consumer confidence did not come easily. Macro Meats worked very closely with the Government for many years to assist and guide in the development of Regulations for the Kangaroo Industry. We recognized that in order to survive let alone progress it was essential to have Government controls in place to gain full acceptance by consumers.

In 1989 we published a booklet which was freely distributed to the public, butchers, supermarkets, the media and even Government Departments. This booklet contained FAQ's about kangaroo meat, the Kangaroo Management Program and recipes. However, in 1989 the only recipes available were mainly for kangaroo tail soup and not much more, so we approached the many Hotels and Restaurants that we supplied and the chefs graciously donated their recipes. We felt that this gave the readers more confidence with kangaroo meat, seeing that these well-known places were using it themselves. The booklet was reprinted in 1996 and has most recently been updated and reprinted again in 2007 and is available through Macro Meats - Gourmet Game direct - please email us for your free copy.

With persistence, perseverance and a lot of hard work we pioneered a huge change in consumer perceptions towards the benefits of eating kangaroo meat. More importantly, we believe the low fat, low cholesterol and nutritional composition of kangaroo meat compared to other meats, together with the taste and tenderness, have contributed to its increasing popularity.

Over the years we have introduced, developed and tested numerous kangaroo meat primal cuts and value added products as well as various methods of packaging. Some have been successful and some not so; most are still used today. During this period we also exhibited at numerous Trade Shows, around Australia and overseas, cooking and promoting kangaroo meat to raise the awareness of the kangaroo industry. We have also been involved in many Australian and International media programs for the same reasons.

We still maintain an active commitment in the responsible development of the Kangaroo Industry in Australia. We work closely with Government Departments to ensure the Regulations in kangaroo harvesting and processing deliver the highest standard and the "worlds best practice" principals in animal welfare, conservation management, environmental issues and meat safety.

Today, Macro Meats controls the world's largest retail distribution of wild game kangaroo meat. We are the exclusive supplier to Australia's supermarket chains and a major exporter. To cope with demand, we are about to start a $7.3 million processing facility upgrade to double our capacity.

Exporting our meat

Since 1987 Macro Meats have grown to become Australia's largest supplier of kangaroo meat to the food service industry and is a recognized leader in its field. In 2008, Macro Meats full range of Retail Ready products are a familiar item in all major supermarket chains in all States of Australia, as well as being on menus in hotels, restaurants and cafes. We also export to many countries around the world.

Multiquip Pty Ltd also joined the GBOTA family of sponsors in 2006. The Company commenced trading in 1984. The Directors, Steve and Lucy Mikosic, operated a poultry farm at the time and understood the needs of the poultry industry.

Their first venture was to produce Litter Machines for the removal of chicken litter from poultry sheds. Steve's invention changed the poultry industry dramatically.

This invention was followed by various types of poultry equipment such as egg incubators for both the commercial and hobby market, plus contracting to manufacture equipment for other companies and some one-off jobs. In 1995 Multiquip purchased a machining company, bringing in house all machining work that was previously sub-contracted out.

This has allowed Multiquip to become a more versatile manufacturing company that is able to adapt to the changing needs of its customers. Over the years Multiquip has grown at a steady pace and while still manufacturing products for the poultry industry they also supply many other markets.

Multiquip is the largest manufacturer of incubators for the hobby – small farm incubation market in Australia . Incubators are manufactured for all types of bird eggs, reptile eggs and for use in research markets.

Multiquip is also associated with the transport industry through a common business association of the directors. Steve Mikosic developed, and Multiquip now manufactures, a granulated discharge system that is used to pump product from trailers and silos. This is used in both agricultural applications such as chicken feed cartage and industrial applications such as plastics cartage.

Multiquip are also suppliers of original equipment products that are used in Kenworth Trucks. These, as with all parts in the Multiquip factory, are manufactured to strict quality standards.

Multiquip also now manufactures a heavy duty water tank that is perfect for in ground installation. These tanks can hold over 22,000 litres and are in high demand as water continues to become a scarce resource.

Some of Multiquip's customers include:

Australia Post, Linco Australia, Mayo Hardware, Kenworth Trucks, Dynaplas, SX Trailers, Sydney Water, Red Lea Chickens, Ingham's Chickens, Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin), Dr Harry Cooper & Taronga Zoo.

About Us

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.

Our Wines

At De Bortoli we strive to make genuinely interesting wine styles with a strong regional focus that also offer outstanding value. We believe wine should have varietal detail and be a reflection of site and season. Wine should have 'a sense of place'.

Cellar Doors

There is a long held family tradition instilled by Vittorio & Giuseppina De Bortoli, of warm Italian hospitality that has been passed down through the generations, and which can still be experienced today at any of our three Cellar Doors. Our friendly, knowledgeable Cellar Door staff offer a warm welcome to all visitors ensuring a memorable visit.

The ultimate expression of the De Bortoli family philosophy is at our Yarra Valley Cellar Door, Best Tourism Winery, Victorian Tourism Awards 2008 which also offers our northern Italian inspired restaurant and cheese maturation room.

De Bortoli Wines joined the GBOTA as a sponsor in 2009.
