Last Monday’s Bathurst race meeting saw the running of the inaugural Bill Kennerson memorial, recognising the contribution Mr Kennerson made to greyhound racing in the area.

Family of the late Mr Kennerson, were on hand for the 618m event running, with a thrilling final going the way of Red Boots, prepared by trainer Justin King.

Two heats were draw the week prior, the event was positioned as a middle distance race for up and coming greyhounds.

Trainer Justin King said the event was fantastic for Red Boots which had been looking to take a step up in distance after winning her first two events over the 535m Richmond trip.

The daughter of Goodsey, stepped moderately and was able to position well early and run down early leaders Wongawilli Jodie and Gully Miss in the home straight.

Pocketing $4,000 for the effort, King said the litter has shown plenty of promise and he hopes to continue over the middle distance before working towards staying events.

The Bathurst GBOTA Club, thank the Dudley Hotel and Kennerson family for the support of the Bill Kennerson event and look forward to hosting the event annually.
